STATE OF PTGC ADDRESS 2012:
JUNE 7, 2011 I achieved a milestone I really never thought was possible, I managed to survive to the ripe old age of 60!!! Let me be more specific, my age is 60, my mind is 35, and my body is 80. When I was younger, like everyone else, I thought I was invincible and would live for ever. Now one of my major goals in life (sad as it sounds) is to be around long enough to collect my Social Security! I am also wondering if I am ever going to enjoy a full year without having surgery. Turning 60 was going to be my “Healthy Golf Comeback Player of the year Award.” That would be negative. I did quit smoking (after 40 years) and was going to get back into shape and work hard on my golf game, instead I reinjured my shoulder (surgery), gained another 25 pounds, and then to finish off the season, fell off my truck and tore my knee (surgery). I haven’t been able to swing a club since July. But, enough about me. Let’s talk about the golf course and the golfers who support it.
Our main focus for last year and now for this year is two-fold, (1) work hard to get our greens back to where they used to be, and(2) work hard on the city to solve the flooding problem that has developed over the last two years. (We still need all of our players to work on the city to stay involved with this problem.) If I had any hair left, I would be pulling it out as we speak!!! This is a very serious problem, for years we have been bragging about how great of a winter course we are, and that reputation is floating away. Anyone with any expertise in this area please don’t be afraid to approach the city.
As always, Vicki and I would like to thank all who volunteered their time and energy last season. It sounds like a broken record, but it is the truth, we couldn’t operate without your help. There is always 15 to 20 regular volunteers each year and usually a couple go above and beyond. I would like to thank Don Moody, Jerry Spieckerman, Arlene Iardella, and the “Caldwell Clan” for their efforts in 2011. Please take the time to do the same.
We, over the years have created one of the busiest and most successful tournament schedules on the Olympic Peninsula ( we must be doing something right because our competitors seem to be copying everything we come up with),and have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for various charities. Those of you who participate should be proud!! Please try to continue this tradition in 2011. Enclosed is a tournament schedule for next year. We hope you can find the time and money to support these tournaments and the charities they support. Any ideas or suggestions for improving these functions, please don't be shy.
Also enclosed is a schedule for golf related fees for the 2012 golf season. I am happy to announce that we have not raised any prices. There are two ways that we can work together to keep golf affordable in PT. One is to continue to volunteer as much as you are able and second is to help bring in new customers. Please take a minute to look over our rate sheet and see if there is something there that will fit you budget.
And finally last, but not least, each year we must pay tribute to our friends who have departed this earth for a better place. It is a tough fact of life and they will all be missed.
Good Bye to Bob and Thelma “Granny” Costain, Hank Salonoa, Derry Dillingham, John Lundgren, and Dib Caldwell.
Thank you for letting me ramble again. We look forward to serving all of our friends and patrons in 2012. Golf is a great activity for the whole family. Have a great Holiday Season and a great New Year.

Mike, Vicki, Gabriel, and Riley
